Dear Citizens of House District 85:

    I am writing urging you to support the development of wind energy in House District 85 and West Texas. A formal hearing of the Texas House of Representatives Committee on Regulated Industries will be held on, Thursday, April 24, 2008, at 9 a.m. The meeting is to be held at the Region 16 Education Service Center, Panhandle Conference Center, located at 5800 Bell Street, Amarillo, TX 79109.

    The purpose of the hearing is to discuss wind energy and transmission lines. The development of wind energy is very important for the residents of House District 85 and all of West Texas. I encourage you, if possible, to spend the day at the committee meeting. It will give you first hand knowledge of the process as it unfolds.

Representative Heflin will host a Town Hall Meeting in Plainview on Monday, November 12, at 4:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, 710 W. 5th Street.

Opportunity for Constituents to Share Ideas and Concerns

AUSTIN (September 24, 2007) -- State Representative Joe Heflin today announced that he will be holding town hall meetings in the five southern counties of District 85 during the first week of October.  State Senator Kel Seliger also will be available to meet with constituents at the Howard County town hall meeting in Big Spring on Thursday, October 4.

According to Heflin, town hall meetings provide a great opportunity for citizens to get better acquainted with their elected officials, and vice-versa.  “This is a time when I get to hear directly from the people who entrusted me with the responsibility of representing them in Austin,” Heflin said.

Heflin continued, “Nothing in my job is more valuable than the input of the people who elected me.  I encourage all citizens in the five southern counties of District 85 to make plans to attend one of the upcoming town hall meetings.”

Following are the dates, times, and locations for the town hall meetings:

  • In Glasscock County, at the Garden City Community Center on Tuesday, October 2, 10-11 a.m.
  • In Reagan County, at the Big Lake City Hall on Tuesday, October 2, 4-5 p.m.
  • In Irion County, at the Courthouse Annex in Mertzon on Wednesday, October 3, 10-11 a.m.
  • In Sterling County, at the Courthouse in Sterling City on Wednesday October 3, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  • In Howard County, at the Hall Center for the Arts on the campus of Howard College in Big Spring, on Thursday, October 4, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
